What is resilience?

Resilience is the ability to confidently face challenges, embrace change, recover from setbacks, and bounce back from adversities.

In today’s fast-paced environment, increases in stress levels, absenteeism, and lack of engagement require organizations to rethink their approach to supporting and developing their leaders, managers, and staff. In Canada, absenteeism alone costs more than $17 billion a year and an average of 9.3 days per fulltime employee.

A resilient organization relies on a resilient workforce and leaders who play a vital role in fostering this essential trait within their teams. Corporations need to provide a resilience coaching program to ensure that the workforce has the health, wellbeing, and resilience to achieve the business objectives. As a result, personal resilience became one of the critical business skills of the twenty-first century.

Individual Resilience

It is the ability to:

  • Bounce back from difficult circumstances;
  • Thrive in the face of adversity;
  • Perform effectively under pressure;
  • Adapt to sudden change;
  • Manage overall health & wellbeing;
  • Cope with emotional upheaval, and
  • Achieve good outcomes despite serious threats to adaptation or development.

HRMW Resilience Coaching Program builds on individuals and teams accumulated skills, abilities, knowledge, and insight as they strive to surmount adversity and meet challenges.

Benefits of personal

Developing personal resilience enhances business resilience. Resilience coaching enables individuals to reach their peak performance, prevent physical and mental illnesses, and create a balanced enjoyable life. In addition to personnel resilience, corporations should also consider the resilience of processes and culture those individuals work with daily.

While individual resilience looks at the individual’s ability to bounce back from adversity, business resilience looks at how well the corporation can ‘weather the storm’ or adapt to the challenges it faces.

Benefits of corporate resilience

Personal resilience coaching enables corporations to:

  • Improve the bottom line
  • Reduce absenteeism and costs associated with ill-health and work injury;
  • Create a psychologically healthy workplace;
  • Meet Health & Safety requirements;
  • Improve productivity due to enhanced personal performance;
  • Promote Work-life balance;
  • Decrease short and long term sick leave;
  • Improve employee involvement and their morale & motivation;
  • Increase loyalty and reduced turnover of employees;
  • Enhance communication & influencing skills and abilities;
  • Encourage a more flexible approach so that stronger working relationships can be developed; and
  • Build a healthier work-life balance and avoid ‘presenteeism’ and burn-out.
